Mar Joseph Pamplany was ordained priest on 30th December 1997 for the Archdiocese of Tellicherry. He obtained M.A. in Religious Studies from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium in 2001, Licentiate in 2002 and Ph.D in Sacred Scripture in 2006 from the same university. He was elected as the first auxiliary bishop of Tellicherry and his episcopal consecration was held on 8th November 2017. He was installed as the Archbishop of Tellicherry on 20th April 2022.
Archbishop Pamplany was elected as the Vicar of the Major Archbishop for the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly on 11th January 2025. In this capacity he is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Lisie Medical Institutions
