General Details

In a career spanning more than a decade, Dr. Arunlal has worked in some of the major oncology centers in India including Madras Medical College, HCG Cancer Centre, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Aster Medcity and MVR Cancer Centre. He was one of the early persons involved in setting up SBRT protocol in Kerala and helped in initiating SBRT treatment for liver cancer and Oligometastatic disease at Amrita, Aster Medcity and MVR Cancer center. He also has a very active academic profile and is involved in teaching post graduate students under the Young Radiation Oncology Platform platform. He joined Lisie Cancer Center as the Head of Department of Radiation Oncology in November 2020. His areas of special interest are SRS, SBRT and Brachy therapy.

Experience
- Working as a Consultant Radiation Oncologist in MVRCCRI Calicut, a dedicated cancer centre catering to patients of northern Kerala Since November 2017. We have 2 beam matched Elekta Versa HD in the department and a Nucleotron brachytherapy machine and treat approximately 1200 patients on machine per year. I was instrumental in setting up the SRS and SBRT program in MVRCCRI. I am also a member of Institutional Review board for screening research proposals, as well as various multidisciplinary tumour boards. I was also the Organising Secretary of CANCON 2018, the annual international oncology conference organised by our institution.
- Prior to 2017 November, I worked as an independent consultant in ASTER MEDCITY, Cochin since May 2015. This has given me a great opportunity in to see the evolution of a new radiation oncology set up from start and create the treatment protocols for a new department. I was once again involved in setting up the SBRT liver program at ASTER MEDCITY with active help from my colleagues at other departments including hepatobiliary surgery. I was the initiator of ART in Oncology (ASTER ROUND TABLE in oncology), a bimonthly meeting of site specific consultants discussing the various new trends in Oncology. I was also a part of IMSOS – Indian Musculoskeltal Society National meeting organising committee during the time.
- Worked as Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) from 2012 June 2015 May. AIMS was an established academic centre and my foundations were further strengthened during my period there. I worked mainly in GI and GU oncology during the time there and set up the SBRT program at Amrita by late 2012. I was also active in organising ARROW (Amrita Residents Radiation Oncology Work shop) which was a teaching program for radiation Oncology residents across Kerala.
- 2011 June-2012 I joined as A Fellow in Advanced Techniques in Radiation Oncology under Rajiv Gandhi University of health Sciences Bangalore, for a period of one year. It was a gratifying period where I got a chance to learn the newer trends in Radiation Oncology. Not only did I come across the fundamentals of Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy during this period, I was also able to utilize my time to further my interest in Brachytherapy. I was able to work with such machines like Cyberknife, Siemens CT on Rail System and contouring and plan evaluation over various platforms like ECLIPSE, MIMVISTA, PROWESS, PINNACLE and PLATO.
- 2011 May-2011 June Worked as a senior lecturer in Government Medical College, Kottayam for a period of 1 month after completing post-graduation.
- 2008 June-2011 May-Post Graduate resident in Radiation Oncology in Barnard Institute of Radiology and Oncology, Madras Medical College, where basic training in decision making in oncology and fundamental concepts behind the art of radiation oncology was obtained.
